Locally Produced KCPT Program Awarded Mid-America Emmy®
Assembly Required Wins Award in the Specialty Program Category
(KANSAS CITY)—KCPT, Kansas City Public Television, has won a Mid-America Emmy® Award for its locally produced program, Assembly Required.
KCPT competed for three Mid-America Emmy® Awards at the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 32nd Annual Emmy® Awards Gala on October 4, 2008. Three separate locally produced KCPT programs were nominated in the categories of Specialty Program, Interview Discussion and Community/Public Service Announcement.
Edging out the competition, Assembly Required was awarded the Mid-America Emmy® in the Specialty Program category. Producer Angee Simmons and executive producer Randy Mason followed three high school robotics teams as they competed in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics competition. KCPT documented the thrilling highs and lows of these three teams on their arduous six-week path to the Kansas City Regional Robotics Competition. Production funding was provided by Kauffman Foundation and DST Systems.
