KCPT's Spring Membership Drive Features a Variety of Programs
Includes World Premiere of New Border War Documentary
(KANSAS CITY) — A cornucopia of programming that has earned public television a reputation for quality and value to viewers will be featured as KCPT presents the Spring Membership Drive March 1st through 18th. From spectacular musical performances to health and financial advice from professionals, "how-to" programs and the world premiere of a new, locally produced historical documentary, KCPT will broadcast programs that enrich the viewing experience as well as inform and entertain.

Bad Blood: The Border War That Triggered the Civil War is the story of this epic time in our nation's history. This history will be told through the lives of slave owners, free-staters, border ruffians, and politicians who helped to shape America's future. Co-produced by KCPT and Wide Awake Films, Bad Blood is a 90-minute documentary that presents the complex morality, differing values, and life-and-death decisions that defined the people who lived during the turbulent years from 1853 through 1861. . Told from a historical perspective, this special illustrates how each new development in the Christian church was reflected in the way music was used in worship. Filmed at locations throughout Britain, including ruined abbeys, grand cathedrals, and charming gardens, the program includes period recreations and musical performances.

The choir Gregorian Masters of Chant interprets modern pop songs in the style of the chants in a performance filmed live at the magnificent gothic Kreuzenstein Castle in Austria. Dressed in the robes of medieval monks and backed by a 29-piece orchestra, the choir's haunting vocalizations against the dark and mystical castle backdrop bring an ages old sound into the modern musical landscape. Dramatic lighting and atmospheric dry ice, fire and mirrors combine with this ethereal sound to elevate a musical experiment from a curious concept to an incomparable artistic experience. The choir performs Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms," Eric Clapton's "Tears In Heaven," Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Scarborough Fair," Elton John's "Sacrifice," Neil Diamond's "Be," Robbie Williams' "Angels" and "Close My Eyes Forever," originally performed by Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford.
