VFW, KCPT Invite Veterans to a Special Preview of Ken Burns' The War

KANSAS CITY - The Veterans of Foreign Wars Headquarters invites veterans to a special one-hour highlight preview screening of Ken Burns' The War on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. in the KCPT Community Room.

The screening is open to all area veterans. There are a limited number of seats, and attendees must RSVP to 816-968-2739 no later than Sept. 17th. KCPT is located at 125 East 31st street in Kansas City, under the tower near the corner of 31st and Main. Please do not call the station to RSVP for the screening.

Sponsored locally by the VFW Headquarters, The War is a seven-part documentary series directed and produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. It explores the history and horror of the Second World War from an American perspective by following the fortunes of so-called ordinary men and women who get caught up in the greatest cataclysm in human history.

The War
will air over two weeks beginning Sunday, September 23, (four nights the first week and then three nights the second week), 7-9 p.m. (7-9:30 p.m. on three nights) on KCPT. More information about the program, as well as stories from Kansas City area veterans may be found at www.KCPT.org/thewar.

The War is sponsored locally by the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Headquarters. Since 1930, the national headquarters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars has been located in Kansas City, Mo. Across the spectrum of veterans entitlements, the VFW has led the way proposing legislation and in lobbying Congress for its passage. The VFW offers assistance to all veterans and their families in obtaining veterans' entitlements and other services. In addition, the organization works for the well being of those serving on active duty, in the National Guard and the Reserves. Today, there are 2.4 million members of the VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary located in approximately 8,500 Posts who continue to fulfill the commitment adopted by the founders in 1899: Honor the Dead by Helping the Living.
