New special exhibition: “Man and Machine: The German Soldier in World War I”
This special exhibition draws on the extensive collections of the Museum, including the recent Hauber donation of machine guns and related material. The exhibition will be told from the perspective of the German soldier and his leaders, featuring the machines of war and the men who used them. Most of the objects and documents will be on exhibit for the first time. The exhibition will run through 2011.

Free Event: Dramatic Reading of “Journey’s End”
Professionals from the Kansas City Actors Theater present a dramatic reading from one of the great plays to come from World War I. Playwright R. C. Sheriff set his 1928 drama in a British trench on the Western Front. The play recently enjoyed a successful revival on Broadway. This free event will be held in the Museum’s J.C. Nichols Auditorium.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence
Location: University Playhouse
Time: 5:30 p.m. Kickoff; 6 p.m. March; 6:30 p.m. Cookout
Registration Fee: Students: $15 with own shoes; $20 with our shoes; Non-students: $30 with own shoes; $50 with our shoes. Registration fee includes a t-shirt and cookout; Spectators: free, plus $5 for cookout.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence asks men to walk a mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. Walking in women’s shoes helps men better understand and appreciate women’s experiences, thus changing perspectives, helping improve gender relationships and decreasing the potential for violence.

On Saturday, September 18th, St. Monica will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding as a “mission church and school for the education in religion and secular knowledge of Colored People”.  A dinner is planned at the InterContinental Hotel, 401 Ward parkway on the Plaza in Salon 1A, 1B & 2.  Social hour begins at 6:00pm and dinner at 7:00.  On Sunday, September 19th a Centennial Mass will be celebrated at 9:00.

Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes
American Diabetes Association

Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes is the American Diabetes Association’s largest annual fundraising and education event.  Step Out is a one-day walk that takes place in over 150 cities across the United States to help raise money to find a cure for the over 24 million Americans living with diabetes, including more than 320,000 in the Kansas City area.  The walk route is approximately 3 miles, with several rest stops along the way. The morning will include a Health & Wellness Fair, activities for children, food, and live entertainment. The event is open to people of all ages and abilities and will be a perfect day for the entire family! Dr. Walter Kamphoefner, Professor of History, Texas A&M University, will speak on the topic of German American soldiers in World War I. Led by German American John J. Pershing, a quarter of the men in uniform were of German ancestry. Book signing to follow. This series, which explores the important role American ethnic groups played during the Great War, is made possible by a grant from the Barton P. & Mary D. Cohen Charitable Trust and the Harry Portman Charitable Trust. This free event will be held in the Museum’s J.C. Nichols Auditorium.

Hallmarket: A Hallmark Artist Art Fair is a celebration of creativity in honor of Hallmark's 100th year.
