CinemaKC, the show that features area films and filmmakers, is launching a new format and look as it integrates Midwestern locations with filmmaker interviews. Erin McGrane returns as the host.
This week’s season premiere episode packs a quartet of short films from our region’s most dynamic and vital movie makers. The season-opening salvo is “I.V. League,” a sublimely creepy piece of genre craftsmanship from local favorite Patrick Rea. Next, Jim Kane introduces his “Off the Table: Chicha & Curanto,” a cerebral food-centric travelogue that feeds the mind as much as the senses.
We return stateside with a trip to Independence as we visit the locations of some of Kansas City’s brightest moments on the big screen. Later, Christopher Garibaldi’s “Bodrum” provides a brassy, single-take interlude before we close with Haley Chaffin and her stop-motion masterwork “Proteus,” a delightfully off-kilter and touching portrait of decay.
