Many items were scarce
during the war because they were needed overseas. Rationed goods
included gasoline, coffee, sugar, rubber, beef, cheese, butter,
oils, canned food, and leather. By the end of the war, twenty
different items were controlled by ration stamps. Popular items,
such as gum, candy, soda, alcohol and cigarettes were extremely
hard to find.
