Great News for Friends of KCPT

Congress makes it possible to give tax-free charitable gifts from your IRA.

Recent government legislation has resulted in some great news for friends of KCPT.  On August 17th, President Bush signed the Pension Protection Act of 2006, to simplify and encourage the use of IRA assets for charitable purposes.  As part of this act, Congress has made it possible to make tax-free gifts from your IRA to non-profits such as KCPT.

Since these gifts can be made free of income or estate tax, this represents a convenient way to contribute to KCPT while conserving non-IRA assets.  The following guidelines do exist:

  • You must be 70 1/2 years or older.
  • It must be a Traditional or Roth IRA.
  • Funds must go directly from the IRA to KCPT, or other qualified non-profit.  They can not be given to donor advised funds, gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, or other planned gifts.
  • Maximum gift is $100,000 in 2006, and $100,000 in 2007.

See your financial planner for more details on how this new, tax-free Act can make it possible for you to give to KCPT, and other non-profits, with greater impact than in the past. If you have any questions on how to make your gift, or the giving opportunities at KCPT, please contact our Director of Major Giving, Patti Broderick, at 756-3580 x 4276 or email patti_broderick@kcpt.org.
