Andy Andrews: The Travelers Gift

Andy Andrews reveals how we can make ordinary decisions that bring extraordinary outcomes, not just for us but for our children and their children. Based on inspiring true stories, Andy shows how each one of us can have a meaningful and life-changing impact -- when we let go of fear in favor of making personal contributions of all kinds and sizes. Performing powerful stories, Andy paints a full picture of how each historical heros pivotal decision changed the course of world events -- not just for them but for generations to come.

Explaining the quantum science behind "The Butterfly Effect," where an action on one side of the world sets molecules of air in motion that moves other molecules and ripples all the way around to the other side of the world, Andy proves that any moment can be the start of a wave of major change. His stories demonstrate the science of "The Butterfly Effect," by showing how one thing -- that one person did on one side of the planet -- set off a chain reaction that brought peace and freedom to people on the other side of the globe.

Andy brings the audience his most important message of all: It is our ordinary actions of our everyday lives that make the biggest and most extraordinary differences. And, each of us has the power to build a magnificent life from this moment forward.

Bob Dylan- Live in Newport

Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival 1963-1965 includes unreleased performances filmed by Academy Award-winning director, Murray Lerner.  It captures full performances of some of Bob Dylans greatest songs, including Mr. Tambourine Man; Blowin In the Wind; It Aint Me, Babe; Like A Rolling Stone.  The Newport Folk Festival takes place in Newport, Rhode Island and is best known for introducing a number of performers who went on to become major stars.  Bob Dylans first Newport appearance in 1963 is generally regarded as his premiere national performance.  Dylan became the artist most notably associated with this festival.

His 1963 and 1964 performances made him popular with the Newport crowd, but in 1965, while headlining the music festival, he decided to "plug in" resulting in a mixed response of cheers and boos.  Dylan left the stage after only three songs, only to reemerge and sing two solo acoustic numbers.  Many of Dylans folk fans felt he was abandoning his folk roots -- and we have it all captured live on film.  For the first time ever, the complete electric set is available.  This shift marked his changing artistic direction, making his move from leading contemporary song-writer of the folk scene to rock n roll star.

"1963-65 Live" CD - $75 pledge

Brain Fitness

What we now know about brain function is that we begin to experience decline in most cognitive functions in our 30s and 40s. As we grow older, the rate of decline increases, and the cumulative effects become more noticeable. We have increasing difficulty remembering, paying close attention, responding rapidly, performing complex tasks and our coordination and movement and many other cognitive functions that once came easily are now more difficult. These are symptoms of elemental physical changes in an aging brain. The problem is more than just lapses in memory. There are three root causes of problems in the aging brain: (1) an increasing signal-to-noise problem in processing information collected by our senses, (2) a decline in the production of key brain chemicals and (3) a slowing in processing speed. These problems make it increasingly difficult to accurately receive, store, retrieve and manipulate information received from any of the 5 senses.

The good news is that we can change this! It is not inevitable that we will be in a state of dementia at the time of our death. We know that we need physical exercise to maintain our physical strength throughout our lives, our brain also needs to be exercised in order to retain our mental acuity throughout whatever our life span. Over 50 neuroscientists have worked to create a system for strengthening the brain and making it perform with more agility, speed and comprehension. The Brain Fitness Program is based on neuro-plasticity -- the ability of the brain to change and adapt -- even rewire itself! The brain remains highly malleable or "plastic" throughout life and by presenting the brain with the proper stimuli scientists can drive beneficial physical and functional change. In the past 2 years, this global team of scientists has developed computer-based stimulus sets (or "exercises") that drive beneficial changes in the brain. This methodology is being expanded to address auditory and visual processing and memory, dealing with complexity, and the neurological basis for difficulties in hand movement, posture, balance and mobility.

The Brain Fitness Program is a program to get your brain in better shape and it is designed to drive beneficial chemical, physical and functional change in the brain. Multiple studies have shown a scientifically valid average improvement of more than 10 years in auditory, memory and cognitive function. Dr. Michael Merzenich of The University of California San Francisco and his colleagues around the world have been leading this effort so that we can bring the research findings, along with a scientifically-based set of brain exercises in this innovative and life-altering PBS pledge program.

Brain Fitness 2: Sight and Sound

With the success of the Brain Fitness Program, we offer a new program specifically designed to help people get the most from their senses as they age. In Brain Fitness 2: Sight and Sound, we look at the two important senses of vision and hearing, how they change throughout life, and what we can do to keep them healthy and fully functional.

Brain Fitness 2: Sight and Sound is based on neuro-plasticity -- the ability of the brain to change and adapt -- even rewire itself! Brain Fitness 2 studies how we see and how that changes through life. Frankly, we get lazy and comfortable in our lives, and that does not allow the brain to remain highly malleable or "plastic" throughout life. But, by presenting the brain with the proper stimuli, scientists can drive beneficial physical and functional change.

Brenda Watson's H.O.P.E. Formula
Millions of Americans suffer from digestive disorders and spend more than $120 billion per year on these problems. More than 65 million have chronic heartburn and over 58 million have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), the second most cited reason for missed work behind the common cold. In many cases, these digestive disorders could be avoided or modified with a proper understanding of nutrition, digestion, elimination and stress modification. Taking the time to eat clean food, chewing thoroughly, eating probiotics (good bacteria like acidophilus and bifidobacteria), taking digestive enzymes, eating raw foods, and consuming optimum amounts of fiber and essential fatty acids are basic health guidelines that have been known and practiced worldwide for thousands of years. The skyrocketing incidence of chronic illnesses in the U.S.A. will continue until we embrace and promote these digestive care concepts.

Best-selling author and founder of five natural health clinics, Brenda Watson, ND, shares her secrets to better digestive health in the new one-hour PBS program Brenda Watson's H.O.P.E. Formula: The Ultimate Health Secret. The acronym H.O.P.E. stands for High fiber, Oils, Probiotics and Enzymes. These four nutrients are as vital to one's health as vitamins and minerals. Dr. Watson believes that the proliferation of other health problems, including arthritis and diabetes, could have their start in the "gut." She shares her own struggle with poor health and presents her simple four-part solution before a live studio audience.

Dr. Wayne Dyer: The Power of Intention

In this "must see" program, Dr. Wayne Dyer challenges the conventional view of "intention." Most of us think of intention as a self-achievement orientation, ego-based, which propels us to "get" what we want. This program and his book turn that thinking upside down.

The program posits a very inspirational view of intention, as Dr. Dyer powerfully convinces us that we each have the potential to create absolutely everything and anything we want - when we "clean the connecting link" to our field of intention by practicing love, kindness, creativity, self-respect, abundance, receptivity, and beauty - what he calls The Seven Faces of Intention.

Many of the world's greatest thinkers speak of a force that intends things into the material world and animates all life. Dr. Dyer introduces the viewer to these philosophies and explains that the keys are in understanding the qualities of this remarkable field of energy and learning to be in rapport with this universal force. Dr. Dyer illustrates his points by offering personal anecdotes and signature stories that moves the audience sometimes to tears, frequently to abundant laughter and, throughout, to insight. His message is personal, clear and empowering: "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."

Helmut Lotti: The Crooners

Crooner is a name given to a male singer who specializes in a certain soft, even intimate way of interpreting mostly romantic songs and ballads. In "Helmut Lotti The Crooners," Helmut demonstrates the versatility of his magnificent vocal talents as he sings some of the worlds most romantic ballads. Backed by The Golden Symphonic Orchestra, Helmut pulls out all of the stops as he interprets songs from the great era of crooning.

Throughout the show, the setting changes from the nightclub to on-location spots that compliment the music being performed. In the song, "What a Wonderful World," Lotti is in a field of sunflowers filled with sunshine and in "Caterina" and "Mandolins in the Moonlight" Helmut is in a small European village. Original compositions such as "Take it with a Smile" and "How Could I Ever Forget You" sound like they may have well been written during the heyday of crooning.

Joining Helmut on stage in a duet is international singing sensation Haley Westenra whose, "voice of an angel" complements Lottis crooner style as they sing an original song, "There is a Sparkle in Your Eyes." Also with Lotti on stage is Isabelle Adam singing "True Love," a song which became famous by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly.

Johnny Cash: Pop/Rock

The Best of The Johnny Cash Show is a musical and narrative overview of one of the most important and innovative television variety shows in history: celebrating not only the musical genius of one of America's greatest artistic treasures, but also the vision of the man at the helm of a truly distinctive legacy in broadcasting history.

Every week, Johnny Cash invited us to "ride that train" with him across state lines, color lines, party lines and the Mason-Dixon line. He had guests on the show that showcased new talent as well as those well established. He invited country as well as rock and roll stars to join him on stage week after week. This eclectic list of performers ranged from Bob Dylan and Neil Young to Loretta Lynn and Bill Monroe to Ray Charles and Charlie Pride. He made stars out of newcomers, and made damn sure that music legends - Country and otherwise - stayed that way.

Lawrence Welk: TV Treasures
With over one thousand programs to choose from, the producers of the program are, indeed, on a treasure hunt, looking for the most entertaining and rarely seen musical numbers from the Welk television show archive. Viewers can expect to see performances by their favorite members of the Musical Family, starting with the earliest days on the show. Segments from the first black and white program on July 2, 1955 to the last show on February 24, 1982 will be included, and many of them will mark major milestones along the way such as the 500th show, the 20th year, and the 25th anniversary program.

Fourteen Welk stars, in addition to Costume Designer ROSE WEISS and LARRY WELK, the son of Lawrence Welk, tell the history of the show and how it evolved from a "band" showcase into a full-fledged variety program. The interviewed stars include: AVA BARBER, BOBBY BURGESS, JO ANN CASTLE, DICK DALE, KEN DELO, ARTHUR DUNCAN, RALNA ENGLISH, GUY HOVIS, JACK IMEL, DEE DEE & JANET LENNON, MARY LOU METZGER, ROCKY ROCKWELL, and NORMA ZIMMER. They vividly describe how the show was produced every week and tell some of the "behind the scenes" stories that fans enjoy so much.

Larry Welk, in a heartfelt interview, talks about his father's life and career and expresses great admiration for his achievements. The Welk stars describe their feelings about "The Boss" and their emotions when the show finally ended in 1982. Their candid comments reflect their affection for Lawrence Welk and for one another. The program is packed with interesting information and great entertainment, and is the first all-encompassing documentary about the legendary television series.

Panda Tales

As the fourth in the line of what has become San Diego's royal family, the Giant Panda cub Zhen Zhen's opening year of life was marked by not only her milestones but those of her siblings, as well as the massive earthquake in China that devastated the Giant Panda breeding center closely tied to the San Diego Zoo's conservation efforts. Though there is no shortage of endearing clips of Zhen Zhen as she grows, Panda Tales is much more than a collection of "ahh!" inspiring images. The program takes a serious look at the plight of the giant panda and how the San Diego Zoo's program has affected the resurgence of this incredible species.

Panda Tales weaves together a story highlighting a time of excitement and learning—but not just for Zhen Zhen. A decade ago, the panda population in the wild was dangerously dwindling due to a low reproductive rate, a disappearing habitat and vanishing food sources. Thanks to knowledge gleaned partially through the San Diego Zoo's research, pandas at the Wolong Giant Panda Breeding Center and Reserve in China, one of the Zoo's partners in conservation, now mate naturally and successfully nurture and raise their offspring. In the past 10 years, the population there has quadrupled.
