Post-prohibition,
brought about distributorship and then eventually the dawn
of adverstising - this introduced national products to people
who had before never known anything other than hometown brew.
Soon Beer Barons, such as Anheuser Busch and Miller in Milwaukee
were testing people's tast buds.
Anheuser-Busch
Anheuser-Busch, today the world's largest brewer, was founded
in 1852 in St. Louis by George Schneider. Facing bankruptcy
a few years later, the tiny brewery was purchased by a group
of St. Louis businessmen, including Eberhard Anheuser. Anheuser
later bought up the interest of the other owners, and in 1861
his daughter, Lilly, married a young St. Louis brewery supplier
named Adolphus Busch.
Adolphus infused the company with sparkle and vision and helped
create a brewing empire. In 1876, Adolphus collaborated with
his good friend, Carl Conrad, to create Budweiser, which has
grown to become the best-selling beer in the world.
