Schlitz

In 1956, the family-owned Muehlebach Brewery was sold to an emerging national power from Milwaukee, Schlitz. They continued to brew Kansas City beer and even pioneered the brown bottle while here, but eventually in 1973, Schlitz decided to move their beer business to Memphis and shut down the Kansas City brewery. Kansas City would not home another brewery until the opening of Boulevard Brewing Company in 1989 followed by the opening of Pony Express in 1995.
