Kansas Prohibition

Kansas adopted prohibition in 1881. Up until then, beer was the fourth largest industry in the territory. Over 90 brewery plants were forced to close their doors. It affected the industries that supported breweries: coopers, stonemasons, machinists, teamsters, bricklayers, painters and wagon & harness makers.

Carry Nation and her Temperance band were on tour, trashing saloons, decrying that Demon Rum.
