Charles W. Gusewelle, Writer and Narrator
Charles Gusewelle graduated from Westminster College in 1955 and became a reporter for The Kansas City Star that same year. After service as 1st Lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne from 1956 to 1958, he continued at The Star as editorial writer on foreign affairs, foreign affairs editor, and, in 1979, he assumed his present assignment as associate editor and columnist. His thrice-weekly column is distributed nationally by the New York Times News Service.

This will be the third time Gusewelle has joined the KCPT production staff. His first encounter began after he returned from a 2800-mile expedition from the source to the mouth of the Lena River in Siberia. That journey resulted in A Great Current Running, a 90-minute documentary of the adventure, which he produced in conjunction with KCPT. In 1997, Gusewelle wrote and narrated the 90-minute documentary, This Place Called Home; a poignant look back at Kansas City's history told through the memories of everyday people.

Gusewelle is the author of six books. His writings have been included in Harpers, American Heritage, The Paris Review, and in the anthology, A Sense of History: The Best Writing from the Pages of American Heritage.
